Update
As some of you may be aware I was having a few overheating issues with my newly purchased uk my00 classic turbo 2000 after I'd replaced the rad, thermostat etc I decided to bite the bullet and take it in to a specialist they told me it was deffinately a head gasket or head type problem! So I was naturally a bit gutted as I'd only had the car 26 days before it threw it's hand in! Anyway I've decided to have the work done it's going to cost me £800 to have STi headgaskets and a new bottom pulley and new sparkplugs etc I thought this was a pretty fair price considering the work that it's going to have. Once it's done Im thinking about getting an uprated fuel pump to go with my exhaust and I'm switching back to a standard airbox and hopefully getting a remap at scoobytecnix in fleetwood.

How many miles has the motor done? 'Cause if around 80k, then when you restore the CR to its former glory (because of the new HGs), then this means that the relatively aged, bottom end has trouble coping with the pressures. Typically, a big end will fail soon after.
It's for this reason that many specialists emplore customers in this position to go full rebuild route...

Oh in that case mate, you're good to go for just HGs for sure.
BTW, that's a very good price for HG replacement if it includes the HGs themselves and all sundries, very light skim to true up of heads, etc. It's an especially good price, bearing in mind the spark plugs/pulley/fitting as well! Nice one.

nice looking motor mate bought mine with a blown engine just had a new one fitted along with new turbo at a cost of £1600 so i know how you feel but unlike me at least you got to drive yours before it went lol

i dont understand the theory that the bottom end is "likely" to go soon after a head gasket failure. surely provided the head gasket failure is caught soon enough then there is no negative effect on the rest of the engine. "extra pressure"???????

It's just as crap on fuel lol it's slow compared to the scooby and doesn't handle as well and for some reason gets alot of police attention... (sigh) but on the plus side it's quiet lol so it's neighbour friendly!

The original ST24 was 167(?)bhp, I care to remember. Its contemporary "older sister", the flagship ST200, unsurprisingly, was 200bhp.
Not sure what the last MY ST24 (if there was one) was? 180? 190?

They look sooo slow on paper, they do feel torquey though just not fast enough to justify 10-25 mpg! Can't wait for scooby power again though! The bizzies round here seem to think it's a crime to have more than two people in a car lol

is that just in an st aswell lol. i hate them. u pay your way in everything an these days they pull ya even for driving right. not much power for the size of the engin but in its day it probs quick
