Default price for not much

just phoned wallace performance tuners for a quote for a re map for my 2002bug sti prodrive with ppp told me i might need a new fuel pump and to remap would cost £632.50 + £150 for pump that would give me just over 300bhp i thought my car had that bhp already doesnt sound like a good deal anyone got any thoughts on this and no anyone local to aberdeen other than above cheers

As you said your car should already be about the 300 mark and with a remap you could get to about 340ish i would have thought.

Contact Andy Forrest, he is just outside Edinburgh and is the man in Scotland for Imprezas. Have a look on his site for all the info you need.

If you have the PPP you should have the Ecutek license so you should be able to remove £150+VAT from the price. As said Andy Forrest knows whats required.

fit it your self mate and save £60-£70 i did my own.

How to change the Fuel Pump
Remove rear seat or fold down if a wagon or uk with folding seat
pull back the carpet in the boot on drivers side
You will see a raised part oval with four screws holding it on
remove it
unplug the electrical connection (the fuel pump and fuel level wiring)
remove the petrol cap to release pressure
run the engine until it stalls
remove pipes on top of tank
undo 8mm nuts holding the tank top on
Lift out the tank top, and cage attached to the bottom
the pump is in this cage etc..
you will need to rotate the cage to get it out

remove the pump from the cage and fit the walbro.. if a newage then the pump will plug straight in and also the same on 99iirc..
if earlier car you need to cut the connectors off and connect the new one etc..
use the OEM filter sock on the new pump.. not the walbro as it is less efficient
and doesn't drop to the bottom of the tank.
cable tie the pump to the cage if it doesn't feel secure.
Refit the cage to the tank, making sure the rubber seal is aigned correct..
refit pipes and plug pump back in
replace cover
replace rear seat

Job done

ok thanks for that saving me £60 but what about the £632.50 for virtually no bhp gains seems to be no point in getting it re-mapped

PPP is NOT an Ecutek licence, it may have been an Ecutek map, mine was done way back in the early 2000's. 340 bhp using a full TSL exhaust system.

HTH

P.S. For non-ecutek maps at half the cost, search for Andrew Carr he's based in NW England.

it should gain over the ppp when mapped.. ppp uses a special prodrive licence which unfortunatly is not the same as a standard tuner licence

Also, can't the OP sell his existing PPP ECU for some decent price (IRO £100-150!) and get hold of a 'normal' STi ECU for the remapping purposes? This could possibly help net him an extra c.£50-100 in itself, right?

An OS map is only £300-ish, and bespoke to the car/mods, makes it a no-brainer...

IMHO

Really, plenty of mappers out there to choose from. To many judge Andy on his own cars set ups.
