Default True 3" Exhausts?

I'm thinking of changing my exhaust and getting a tweak, as it is looking tatty and only has a 2.5" centre.

I would like something other than a Nur Spec I think, but not sure what. I don't want something too loud for when I start the car at 4am in the morning, but I do want to be noticed! lol.

Cheers

Are they proven to produce results?

Is there actually better exhausts than others in terms of exhausts? Or it it generally looks and sound people go for due to performance being the same?

Well future proofing it really.

At the moment I'm fully de-catted with a 3" system, but a 2.5" centre. My downpipe isn't the best either so that will be getting replaced too.

I'm running 430bhp at the moment, and hoping putting a new system on and a tweak will squeeze a bit more out of it.

I bought the Revolution system based on its reputation for low backpressure, cost, fruity but not OTT sound and ability for well over 450 hp, although I'm aiming for just over 400 hp and have used it since my first mods at 340 hp.
Its a decat system, but the supplied adapter allows you to put on a std 2.5" catted d/pipe at MOT time.

Do the pipes narrow down to 2.5" at the flanges?

It's slip jointed 3" so no flanges. The adapter supplied goes from 3" slip to a 2.5" flange for the std downpipe if fitted.

Ditto. Nice subdued rumble at low revs so no annoyed neighbours (I'm on-call and can find myself on the road at 3am), but big meaty noise at full chat.

Worth considering a 3.5" system if going to up the power. APS do a true 3.5.

3" APS system here, fits a treat. Not stoopidly loud at idle, but quite a rasp (headers) at WOT.

I have a Ganador Titanium race exhaust.
3" construction - not too loud on idle or town but opens up lovely on full chat.

Fitted the APS 3.5 inch exhaust, replacing the APS 3 inch exhaust and gained 16 bhp and a nice 40 lb/ft torque in the mid-range. Noisy when cold but sweetens up as it warms up.

The Milltek 3" system was recommended to me. I can't find any fault with it. Quiet on the motorway. nice burble at low revs and distinctive note higher up the rev range..

Revolution is a good exhaust system with proven power ability. Above 350 bhp I use a 3" open neck D/P as opposed to the keyhole design of their D/P but the exhaust is good, not too loud in the car but quite distinctive outside. I have two cars here at 420 bhp plus and one over 500 bhp all on the Revolution systems, chosen for their consistent results.
