Help! Orange warning light?
Its been a while but I have just purchased another scooby this time a 2002 Bugeye. The problem I have is that it is 1. definetly down on power 2. smells abit fuel 'y' . 3. the orange engine light is permanently on?
I think this means the Lambda sensor is gone but I dont know which one or what to do from here?
any help much appreciated. Best place to get parts from too?
Thanks
Paul

Taking car in this morning for diagnostics, but just phoned local subaru dealer for price on lambda sensor.
He said there is two 1 being an 02 sensor @ £210 and the other exhaust temp @ £63 both plus vat? Which one goes where on the car? is the 02 the one on the headers end and temp after the turbo?
cheers

On a bug there's 3 sensors in the exhaust, the EGT which is in the front cat(up) pipe, the front O2 sensor which is in the manifold and pig to get at, and the rear O2 sensor which is in the rear Cat pipe. £210 plus VAT for the front O2 sensor is quite cheap for Subaru as they used to £350ish, but you can get them for under £150 these days

Spot-on
DTC P0031 — FRONT OXYGEN (A/F) SENSOR HEATER CIRCUIT LOW INPUT
If it puts the car in limp mode then yes you will have a power loss as it should not boost above 0.5 bar. If the lambda reading is incorrect, then the ECU is potentially getting the fuelling wrong, so again a potential area for power loss. Only way to be sure is to fix the fault and see if it remains down on power.
To get to the sensor remove the drivers side front wheel, remove the inspection cover in the wheel arch liner (it is pretty obvious) and then you can see the sensor. The plug is under the cover by the drivers side front strut turret and also has 2 cable ties on a bracket by the coilpacks (awkward to access and easier from under the car). I found a 22m ring spanner easiest because it has an angled head and you can feed the plug and cable through the ring before getting a grip of the hex. Spray with duck oil/WD40 first.

Not used them personally but only Denso make the sensor so there's no 'universal' sensors that will do the job. You're just not paying the Subaru dealership premium. It is easy enough, just fiddley and lots of tight spaces

Just thought i'd let you know result!
Worldparts did not have any so got one from ebay (as above) Came next day, It was a nightmare to come off(Very tight) I could not manage with 22mm spanner so had to get lambda tool £5 from local parts shop! Once off replacement part went on a doddle took about 5 min drive and 5 starts of engine before light went off? All ok now thank god!

Glad all went well, they do seize on after a few years use, my manifold was coming off anyway so I took it off then, but I fitted the new one after the manifold was back on the car to avoid accidentally damaging it during manifold fitment
