Default URGENT HELP NEEDED! clutch problem.

hi everyone,my car is a uk 99 turbo wagon,it had a new exedy clutch about 6 months ago and has never missed a beat, out of the blue, the misses was driving to work ,puts clutch in at a junction and the pedal stuck right down,so i pulled the pedal back out,it just sort of sprung back to its correct position,so pushed clutch down again and it sticks at the bottom again, nightmare! the clutch is completely unusable as you cant select any gear.i can grab the pedal by hand and pull it up and push it down and all feels ok,has something come adrift or what? it sticks top and bottom and now cant drive the car,i had to get it towed back, any thoughts on this would be great,if you push the clutch to the bottom you still cant select a gear!PLS HELP.i would have thought that its just something silly but i havent got a clue what to do.

When it goes to the floor and stays there, is there no resistance when it happens - does it limply go to the floor?

Could be an issue with the release bearing - may be moving in and out of position (although highly unlikely).

99: Take us a photo of the clutch slave cylinder/fork area (underneath the intercooler) and post it up. Bust return spring is one possibility and if, as you say, you don't know what to do yourself a pic will help us help you.

One possible explanation is that the return spring has gone. If so it's a simple fix. If it ain't that, another possibility is that the release bearing has pulled out of the clip in the pressure plate. Post us the photo and it'll be easier to advise you. If you can't do that have a peek under the IC from the passenger side, look for the cylinder, and the top of the fork, and then see if you can see a spring stretched between it and a bracket about three inches in front.

right, couldnt really get a decent pic as sti8tmic is hugely in the way,but i saw the cylinder with the black rubber caseing thing which was in a stretched position, when i grabbed it to check it it came apart, its looking like a cable with a ball type end has come away(not connected) to the fork,is it a matter of whipping the ic out and reconnect?

Blimey something flipping weird appears to have happened there. Whip the intercooler off and if it's not immediately obvious what you need to do, take us a pic. If the slave piston has somehow become disconnected from the fork, it's highly possible you could have lost fluid from the system so watch for spillage and check the level in the reservoir.

If in doubt, take a pic with the IC off.

this came out as i moved the fork back and fourth, would u normally be able to do that as i felt loose and just came out? is this likely to be the problem? it certainly dont look as it should.

Unfortunately it's more than a quick fix I'd say..

If the fork is loose like that then the release bearing is either out of the pressure plate or you've broken the fork. Take the rubber bung off and shine a torch in for a look

the fork shifts back and forth by hand and does make a mechanical type sound,is it not that the spring has just broke/come off?

Nope.

You could try pushing the fork back (towards the slave) hard just incase the release bearing might press back into the cover (if it's come out) but if it has come out it's probably broken.

the fork is defo not broken and is connected.i just had a look.would you not normally be able to move the fork backwards and forwards without the spring connected then?

the spring holds the fork is position , welll just stops it moving on its own , you are just seams along way from the slave , think the bearing and fork may of came apart from the clutch cover , you need to push against the arm , but towards the car to see if the bearing clicks in (u get me ) subarus have a pull clutch not a standard push clutch like most other cars ...

but if it does "click in" surely it will just come out again.why would it just pop out? is it more likely to be broken, the whole exedy clutch inc release bearing is not even a year old!

it might do , but its worth a look , otherwise its gearbox back out again im afraid.

you might just need a new clutch cover... the spring the bearing clips in is part of that

so is the release bearing breaking or popping out why the spring is no longer there?

this is the pic of the cover see the clip in the center , sometimes the spring clip will become weak and the bearing pops off.

well would of said the cover clip was broken , not the release bearing , yeah and you need a spring ....

ive done a few on my drive , u need another pair of hands ,

if its under 12months since fitted parts may be covered under warranty , give the garage a ring where you had it fitted .
