Classic Headlights

Classic Headlights
Hi
I have been running a 1998 (S reg) Impreza for the last two years until a recent collision with a tree which has written it off!
I am looking to replace it with another classic shape, I found the original headlight very poor indeed. I upgrade the lights by fitting a pair of PIAA driving and HID headlights which I thought worked perfectly.
Now here is the question I would like answered, did later classics have improved headlight as standard or will I have to upgrade again?
Cheers
Steve
PS, I may have some parts for sale when new car found and sorted.

Im in the same fix with my lighting - all classic headlights are not good chap!
I think the only way to go is retro fit bi zenon projectors - although I am going to try fitting reflectors from another car at some point to see if that works (as far cheaper) but time is not on my side at present.
Did you find your HIDs were good - any issues with dip to hi??

Late classics just came with Crystal headlights as standard.....still poo poo lights
Retrofitting Bi-Xenon projectors is the only answer guys
IMO HID kits on classics just give off too much glare with no accurate cut off.

I did not have any issues with dip to Hi, may be because I had the PIAA on already. I removed the original fog lights and wired the PIAA in place to come on when switch to main beam, which worked great but then when you return to dip beam it was like having no lights on.
I then fitted HID (4300) which improved the dip beam, I was never flashed by oncoming car, but friends did say they where very bright when I followed them too closely. I was conscious of this whenever I followed people thereafter and I used to adjust the light down by using the level switch inside the car.
If you do fit HID I would suggest fitting LED side lights as the original sidelights look yellow compared to the white headlights.
Hope this helps.

When i got my classic the lad before me ran new wires direct from the battery and to a relay to power the headlight bulbs... i put one side back to standard wiring and could see there was quite a bit of difference in light.
