LPG??
#3
Allegedly Phil Price runs all his Rally school cars on LPG including EVO and Scooby http://www.philprice.co.uk/ .
Reading some of the Evo forums they say because it's higher octane they get more power on gas than petrol if set up right.
When mine rattled I tried to get Bob Rawle and API Dave to consider an LPG conversion. The just looked at me like I was from a different planet!
There was a website giving lots of pictures of this conversion to a classic. I can't find it now. His problem was space. He had to relocate the battery to the boot for the evaporator (called different things by different people). The way I understand it is that LPG is liquid from the tank until the last minute then evaporated to gas and allowed into the engine through solenoiods (holes drilled into the inlet manifold). The petrol injector signal is interupted so they don't inject.... the ECU don't know any different.
If you google "LPG Impreza" there are plenty of hits. When you get into resarching the LPG systems you find they are quite clever..... separate ECU's controlling single or multi point injection systems taking their trigger from the existing injectors and doing the necessary according to the "LPG Map". It's an interesting subject.
Have a cruise round some of the EVO forums (don't remember which one).
I haven't got the ***** to do mine after the latest expense.
Your conversion would make a great thread - especially a high power one!
