Default Front n/s rattling and water in boot

ok, 2 questions!!

Ive noticed a rattle coming front the front nearside corner, its metal sounding. It sounds like its either in the dash, something in the engine bay knocking against a panal or something knocking in the wheel arch.
Any ideas what it could be?

And, the boot was damp when i bought it (its under warrenty so if its anything major ill go back with it) and ive had to chuck the carpet and the wooden base thingy out because it was saturated with oil. The carpet up the sides is marked with where damp has risen.
Thats dried now but there is a puddle of water down the side, below where the jack sits and also the spare wheel well has water in the bottom.
It cant be the light seals because it reaches the back of the boot.
Could it really be the boot seal? Letting that much water in?? we havent even had much rain for a while.

Puzzled, any advice greatly appreciated thanks
x

Hi Ellie What year car do you have and what model?
As a guess at the first one, could be a spring, but that is only a guess, you would really need to get a mechanic to look at it, the 2nd one is probably either a leak around the rear light cluster or more likely the spoiler is leaking and water running into the boot.

lol sorry its a 99 uk turbo.

I think some of the water is the rear light cluster actually, but that cant be responsible for it being in the spare wheel well. ill inspect the spoiler though, thanks.

Have you tried a search at all?
There are four main places where water gets into the boot:
1.Rear lights: remove and reseal.
2.Boot seal: check for water ingress after hosing it down, seal under it.
3.Under the spoiler: check and reseal.
4.Rear windscreen glass: rare, but it DOES happen: have it checked by a windscreen place if all else fails.

Lastly, despite what you might read on here, DO NOT use silicone to seal the spoiler, lights, boot etc.

The correct stuff is Carafax, grey, and is available from caravan dealers and some Halfords. It is non-setting, remains constantly waterproof and, most importantly, the item you have sealed CAN be removed again if necessary
