Default Oil Surge and Subaru Engines

ive got a thing bugging me from many people ive spoken too saying subaru engines are crap and theyve blown some up due to oil surge even when the oil is on full?

something to do with that flat engine.

is this still a problem? any truth in it? and how would you stop it from happning? someone mentioned baffled sump?

is that a must before starting trackdays?

cheers

The engines can go bang very quickly if you have oil starvation, but it takes quite a bit of corner speed to starve the engine in the first place. I did loads of track days with mine without a baffled sump and it was fine. I found the fuel starvation was an issue before oil surge.

If your running standard or nearly standard suspension you probably won't need it unless you are doing mallory or snetterton, as you won't get the corner speed and forces to starve the engine. To be safe though, yes, a baffled sump is the best way forward for track use. Not just a top plate mind you, a proper baffle system. There is one for sale on here I think.
