Default very low gearing

i have a uk 2000 t reg it is modded putting out around 280bhp but im worried with the fact of when am on the motorways its doing around 4000rpm at 70 mph surely thats not geared corectlly for a uk car ? im have allowing myslf to think that it must have import spec gbox fitted at some point but is there a way to confirm it using the gearbox code? is it poss to fit a longer fifth gear what are my options? i have heard import boxes are stronger an im looking to put more power through it later in he year anyways but im dong quite a bit of motorway driving id just like it to have longer legs i reckon at the min it would rev out at 125mph please help

your horse power is irrelevant but it sounds like youve got an wrx RA gearbox. have a look for your gearbox code, been a T plate/99 you should have a 754 box...see what it says. The RA box do top out about 125-130 but get there violently quick! a uk gearbox will go past 130 quite easy......

Yup sounds like an RA box.I have one on my MY99 uk turbo but it has the uk 5 gear so is fine on the motorway but like Wrighty says it does go through the gears really quick!

Default fittin a longer fifth gear

so is it possible to have the longer fifth gear fitted from a uk box or the like that would be ideal for me cos ive come custom to the lower geared accelleration. its obviously drinking fuel on the motorway revving at what it does is there anyone out there whom could fit the longer fifth gear for me local would be best but anywhere would help

it would be cheaper to get a UK box & diff fitted, than have your box pulled apart.

Yeh its not going to be cheap to have yr box taken off , split , a uk 5th put in then put back together but if money and car being off road isnt a prob then it would be worth getting it done.
