Hawkeye drivetrain reliability if modding
Hi all
I'm thinking of modding my 2007 GB270 (based on WRX) up to around 340bhp/370 lbft. I've already asked Duncan at Racedynamix about the reliability of the gearbox and clutch from doing this.
Has anyone had bad experiences from putting this much power through a hawkeye WRX drivetrain as I understand it is not as strong as the STIs?
Thanks
Neil

The hawkeye WRX boxes have been re-engineered from the other TY754 boxes and they are much stronger than the blobeye and bugeye boxes. They have been proven to handle up to 400/400 without any issues. That said the 6 speed boxes are much stronger than the 5 speed boxes but at those power and torque levels your box should easily cope.

I ran a TY754VN4AA blobeye box at around 400/400 in my race RA with serious launches without breaking it, after some advice I was going to a hawkeye box but ended up moving the car on a lot further than expected so went to a 6 speed. These hawkeye boxes have been holding up well at 400/400 but as with everything there are no guarantees

Is it the bhp or torque that is the biggest factor as my torque figures are already high (360lbft) but bhp is only in the 290s currently...?
