Default Anyone running a simtek on new age subaru?

Hi all

Has anybody got any experiences running a simtek ecu on a newage impreza. My mate is toying with having one fitted on his 03 type uk so he can run anti lag and launch controll and maybe squeeze a few more ponies out of it but i am running a simtek on my classic and have tickover issues etc. So as you can imagine, he doesn't want to part with £1500 to have any problems pop up.

Any advice or feedback gratefully received.

Cheers

Glen

Simtek is more suited for big big power!! An ecutek remap wud be better for your mate. Antilag and launch control are very sore on the car and your pocket if something goes wrong bearing in mind the car is now 7 year old.

You would also be better with a few mods to support simtek / remap like a decat etc

I see what your saying, car is already running 340bhp so its not just about the remap or extra power, that would be a bonus. He definatly wants anti lag and launch controll, on his head be it. Mine been fine so far to be fair. Just need to know if it will still run, tickover etc as mint as it does on the standard/current ecu. Have you run a simtek in a new age subaru? What were your experiences with it?

Cheers

If he wants it let him go for it!! I personally dont have one but a friend got one fitted and about 2 days later his clutch went. A month later the gearbox went!! These things would of happened anyway sooner or later but he was not happy at having to fork out all that money.

The good thing about simtek is it can be removed from the car and sold and then you can go back to your original set-up.

I have one on an 02sti and have had it more than a year now and had no mechanical problems as mentioned above> i dont think they can be blamed on ecu.

Mine was mapped in winter and as the weather got warmer the idle did go a bit odd, But a call to my mapper and he came and adjusted(for free) and all was good last summer and right through winter and still is good

you can get anti lag and launch control on his standard 03 ecu. So there is no need for a simtek. And as for scooby1929 comment that a simtek is only for a big power build thats sh1te as i have one on a 98sti running 400bhp and have no issues, mapped byAndy F....

JGM and dynamix are mobile - they travel to you. So may be more practical for you, etc...

400bhp in my eyes is big power. All I was getting at is the later cars have very capable ECU,s. In your car then thats fine and it removes the need for the MAF sensor

The Simtek is a flexible ECU, best go look at their website or that of the mappers who do them for more info.

They need mapping to the car and as said above offer MAFless mapping and probably loads more.

Personally I has an Apexi PFC on my classic which was fine, Simtek wasn't available then!

Mafless
2 Full maps and not just two different boost levels
Switchable ALS & Launch Control(only JDM's can have switchable ALS on the OEM ECU AFAIK)
Ability to Auto I/C spray

And more

I have it in my 04 and love it as I have the user tune package.(Like a big kid with a new toy)

another here with the simtec on the 03sti.car runs lovely and smooth, starts good when cold and ticks over good too.if he is wanting to fit one then its his car to do as he pleases.also once its on then it is there if he wants to go for more power in the future.

As above really. The mafless bit was a good option for me which is why i went from ecutek to simtek, also two totally seperate maps which can be used as either a low and high boost map or as i have a v power map and a v power +e85 map. Or any combination the user chooses
