Hi can some one help just looking at my ecu and it says s1 or IS whichever?

what model of car does this belong too?

The ECU is a 1S, should be code 22611-AC72x, and was originally fitted to the manual transmission GC8D model WRX saloon.

What year is that for , what should a wrx sti have?

GC8D is Sept 96 - Aug 97 (V3 for STi's)

Saloon WRX STi should be definitely be a 6S. Wagon STi is another story... certainly I know of some imported wagon STis that had the 6S, but at least one Japanese aftermarket tuner claimed they had the 1S as standard. I can't resolve that one for you because I've never taken a close look at a guaranteed standard STi wagon.
