Default how much oil does you scoob consume - 2.5 engines.

Hi all,

I have recently had the head gasket changed and have noticed that the car seems to use a fair amount of oil, all my milkeage is motorway and usually sitting at 4k revs.

Is this normal, its a 2.5 engine on the hawkeye sti.

Thanks

have you noticed this before your headgasket went and is there any evidence of a leak?

If it's used a litre in 450miles that sounds excessive for an OE setup. Intact that's excessive full stop!

My 2006 2.5 WRX Hawkeye use practically no oil, in fact my last oil change was 2k ago, I drive the car hard all the time and I cannot see that the oil has gone down on the dipstick at all. My car has 43k FYI.

I never had any serious oil usage even with an HG leak.
Oil use did go up a little when I started remapping, but a catch tank solved that.
The worst it ever got to was about 100 ml/1000 miles with mostly motorway use.

Is it true that a forged engine WILL use oil? Someone on another forum mentioned it........

MY07 RB320, oil changed every 6 months - no usage!
Mainly motorway, with a play at the weekends!

Its a possibility that the piston rings have lost their tension if the engine has been overheated at sometime.
A Compression Test and Cylinder Leakage Test would narrow the problem down.

hey if the head gasket has been replaced take it back as the car as been overheated too much and piston rings are ether burnt out or stuck in effect you need a rebuild or new motor mate 1 ltr per 450 miles is way too much

I'm sure I've read before that normal use can be anything upto 1 litre per 1000 miles, but that would still suggest yours has excessive use. Good luck with the checks and hope its simple/cheap mate...........

Ye mine hardly uses any oil no matter how i drive it, obviously its always warmed up n cooled down properly though. It is a standard engine as well, no mods.

that was the 3rd attempt mate, the first build used so much i had to put another bottle onto the catch can to catch the flood of oil running through it.i think you would call that a little excessive.
