Default Which Cambelt / Kit do you use?

The car (04 STi) is due for a cambelt change, I've been looking around at cambelt kits and was wondering what people have had fitted? I normally fit Gates belts to all the other cars, should I treat the impreza any different?

Cheers, Rich.

Subaru Genuine belts are made by a Gates subsidiary so you shouldn't go far wrong there.

If by "kit" you mean the extra bits - idler pulleys and so-on, those bits aren't made by the same manufacturer as the belt, and tend to be much of a muchness. On a car of that age it's an open question as to whether you'd need to replace them anyway. If you spin the existing pulleys in your hand you'll probably find they're fine to re-use. If you're doing it yourself and aren't using a new tensioner, make sure you reset the old one properly, or you'll be replacing it a few weeks down the line.

Thanks for the replies. By kit I do mean all the pulleys, I've seen one for £195 which includes all pulley/idlers and the tensioner.

What do you mean by resetting the original tensioner? I thought these were automatic on the impreza

Thanks again, Rich.

Take a look at http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/1945883-post24.html - if you re-use the original tensioner, you have to compress the pin very slowly else you guff it up

this correct but don't forget to lock it in the compressed postion with a small drill bit or similar you then pull this out when it's re fitted to allow it to tension the belt, and when he says slowly compress it you need to do it very slow and steady there are a few vids on Utube showing the process.
