Cool

Guilty of answering my own questions (as usual).

The MY01 Kenwood has a separate (brown) lead for radio mute. This fits any form of car kit that drops the mute voltage to earth. When fitted this causes the display to show "CALL" and mute the program/music.

Hope this helps.

Duncan

Edited to add - the Kenwood head unit has a din socket to accept a CD changer, so should all fit without problems.

Thumbs up

I have now managed to set Radio/CD Changer and telephone up
you are right despite what Subaru and Kenwood say there is a telephone mute on the radio it is a brown wire with a white connector with Tel Mu on it this when linked to hands free unit cuts off radio (Gently ) and brings back on at end of call.
the display says CALL.
I have also fitted the current 6 disc changer (not the out of date one being supplied by Subaru dealers [old model from 2 years ago])
The KDC-C467 this is in the boot on the left hand side in front of Jack fitted to the floor. I did not put under passenger seat because of possible risk from Feet also it would be right in front of the heater/AC outlet which would not do it any good
Thanks everyone for your help
John

Question

Have just had a nokia hands free kit fitted but installer said that he could not find a connection on the radio to connect the radio mute function too
Does anyone know whether this facility can be used with the Standard radio fitted in the StiUk
Also does anyone Know if it is possibble to link into the radio a multi CD Player

Don't think the standard unit has a radio mute function. The only way to connect a CD multi player would be to use a modulator. This sits between the FM aerial and the headunit. You then tune in the CD player! Not the best quality you will ever hear. If you go for a Sony one I may have a spare modulator. Hope this helps.

The 6 disk multi-changer for the STI MY02 (AKA STI7) is part number H6250AE500 £229.95 inc VAT. According to my dealer they are available from stock.

You can use the radio mute output from the nokia to trigger a nc relay to interrupt the power supply to the radio. Make sure you interrupt the ignition switched 12V not the permanent 12V or you will lose all the memorys every time the phone rings.

I know this works 'cos I did it to mine when the Nokia man couldn't find the mute input. I can even tell you which wire needs to be interrupted in the next few days but would have to go and take it apart to check as my memory is hopeless.

Thanks for your replies.
WillieF I have already had the phone kit fitted without drilling so this is not an issue but thanks anyway.
Chelspeed, With regard to which wire to connect into this would be a great help if it is not too much trouble to find out.
KenG does the changer you refer to fit OK to the Radio Cassette and single CD fitted as standard in the STi7?
Chaz I don't think I want to do it this way as quality will be affected thanks anyway.
Any more advice would be welcome!!!

Dashmount also do a wiring loom that does the mute bit for you. It is a simple plug in with no cutting etc. You need to find out whether your stereo has a black iso plug or a non standard white plug on the back prior to your ordering.

John, according to bulletin IM718 (lists carpet mat set, WR sport Silencer and 6 Disc Changer for the STI) these are from stock. Its on my list after I get the PPP upgrade.

Spooky, just logged on specifically to post the answer...

Pulled it apart today to look. The plug is white, it's divided into three by locating pins, 6 terminals at each end and 4 in the middle. The wire I broke into was yellow with a green trace, looking at the open end of the plug it was at the bottom left of the middle block of 4, ie the middle one of the 7 used wires (bottom right not used).

- - - - - - - -
- - - X - - - o

X is the one you want, o not used.

Bear in mind this is for MY01 WRX and not STI.

John
I have a UK300 and the double din Subaru unit is a Kenwood OEM unit. I bought a Kenwood 6 disc changer and had this fitted by a local ICE dealer and they put my Nokia hands free kit in at the same time - mute works fine on the phone. Not sure what is in the STi but a good dealer will tell you the OEM for the unit and recommend suitable kit.
Dave

btw - a 6 disc unit fits under the passenger seat fine and out the way of most feet :-) 10 disc untis are too big apparently?

Brake Neck - what happens when the phone rings, does the radio just go dead or does it say phone or mute on the display?

I couldn't find anything in the paperwork to tell me whether there was a phone mute function built in so my set-up just kills the power when the phone rings, works fine but not as elegant as doing it properly.

Cool

I have mountwed a hand free set on my STI with double din Kenwood radio.
No problem, the mute connection is the brown cable on the rear side of the radio.
When the phone rings, the radio mutes gently and is automatically re-activated after hang-out.

Please could somebody confirm;

Guys

Are you saying that the STI7 unit is a kenwood unit. If so, then would I be able to plug my Kenwood Disc Changer into it. Cant remember the model code, but its about 2 or 3 years old.

Thanks

Shaun
