Overheating Problem
Hi guys
Just bought an Impreza 1994 classic from a guy and after driving it fo around 10 miles it overheated quite bad. Had water bubbling from the coolant and also from reservoir. I now have the car home and cant get it booked into a garage till Thursday so was hoping to pick a few brains if thats ok.
Everyone seems to think head gasket but after speaking to the specialist he reckons the failings of HG's arn't that common on Scoobs unless they have been abused.
Also have smoke coming from the exhaust and after looking closer the exhaust seems to have black oil coming down it.
Any info appreciated.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But my monies on the head gasket mate, a leaking turbo may also be contributing to oil out of the exhaust.
If the overheat was bad, it has more than likely warped your heads and the block should also be checked for flatness.

Yeah m8 that is my worst fears
Looks like it may cost me a small fortune to get fixed
EDIT: If the heads are warped then would there not be a knocking nose from the engine or something?

No mate if the heads are warped it basically means that they will need to be refaced when installing a new head gasket. Machining usually costs around £50 so not a major expense.
Basically if the garage were to install a new head gasket in between a warped block or head the Head gasket will not seal and will more than likely blow again.
i hope that makes sense.

Indeed you would be best to get them both done....as on Subarus the engine has to be pulled out anyway.
Doing the HG's whilst engine is in place is far too time consuming. SO if engine is out why not do both the cost for the 2nd will be minor.
Couldnt tell you who could help you out up ther bud....but it may be worth starting another thread to locate someone reputable.
Although remember it might not be the head gasket...hence why you need someone to check it over and confirm to you.
