Default how much bhp?

hi, will soon be having 2.1 stroker fitted to my v5 type r, just wondered what bhp i should be able to get with just a re-map? i also have a front mount to go on but have been told i would need to run stand alone management for this to work? any ideas/help much appreciated.

Its not the engine, it turbo etc that helps with bhp.
Front mount works with any management system

i understand bigger/better turbo be best but out of my budget at minute, just wondered what sort of power i could expect and was told i would have probs with maf sensor on v5 if i run fmic (ths can be removed if using different management?)

2.1 is good for 550+ depending on supporting mods & the heads you have. MAF can be deleted if you have a management such as Simtek or Solaris etc.

Go for around 330bhp, that way the rest of your car will stay in one piece

What I am getting at is the engine is one part in the chain, your clutch, gearbox, brakes etc all need to be upgraded, your also better running an aftermarket ecu due to the pipework and your maf, so its best to keep it lower rather than higher if you want reliability.

ok, i was under the impression that the drivetrain on type r is a lot stronger than standard? was running 326bhp before the need for the re build! was hoping once engine is done i could safely run nearer to 400? if this is possible with stock turbo etc?

The drivetrain will be eaten alive by a 2.1, the gearboxes are good for around "320lbs" of torque, some do more, some break before that, wouldnt want to put too much torque through that or the clutch tbh, the running gear is the same on all the STI's, and they were not that good (hence the improvements to the new age cars in the brakes/cluth/gearbox department).
To fully upgrade properly your going to need 10k(ish), but thats new age STI money and really your a fool not to jump at the chance of one of those over a classic.
Love my Version 5 STI Type R but my new age Spec C is just miles ahead in everything

Put it this way, I'll go to the shops in the type R, I'll just go for a drive in the Spec C thats the difference, classics are lovely but they just cannot match a new age STI (especially a JDM twin scroll one ) for anything

That it is though the type R will be going shame as they are both different cars in their own way, the type R is a little more unsophisticated yet fun, the Spec C is pretty raw and just handles like its on rails and you just want to drive it for no apparent reason
If I had the cash I would keep both, but 4 cars is a little greedy

There are many people running over 400ft lbs on standard V4, 5 & 6 boxes. I was personally running over 400ft lbs with good abuse on my V4 box with no problems. So i dont think the gearbox should be an issue.

And there are even more people killing the gearboxes with 80lbs of torque less than 400lbs and they are not trying hard either, 400lbs is stupidity on a classic gearbox, if they were that good then subaru would have put them in the new age cars but they knew they wouldnt be able to take the pressure, so 6 speed, stronger casing, stronger gearset, closer ratio's

to your original question - what is your stock turbo and no you wont run near to 400

350 max if a td05-16

for 400 or close to it you need a td05 - 20 or md321h

i`m going to run a 20 cos they are cheap and if my box goes, it goes but i will treat it nicely

Spend 15k to get near an 11k car (thats 4k to spend on getting 400bhp and some new discs and pads ) and a 6 year newer car and a stronger gearbox

Tony

PS that excludes the cost of your car
