Default engine just wont start

yep, built the thing and nothing

turns over perfect, but no go
know i do have an idea to whats happening, but need to comfirm this

the car is an early classic 95 uk
i fitted an sti v7 bottom end and sti v4 heads.
now looking at it know, the spocket has loads of teeth all the way round
but sure the early classic dont have as many.

could this be the problem???
if so, im hoping the spocket from an early classic will resolve this

there isnt one.

but after looking into it even more. the sprocket on the v7 engine has 27 teeth
where as the early classics have 6.

know the way i look at this, dont know why i didnt think about while i was building the engine. but me thinks its something to do with that sprocket.

just picked one up, thanks to a mate ' adam' so tomorrow im going to change them over
see if thatmakes a difference

I've no idea what the old engines are like in this respect, but if your old engine's cam pulley has a different number of trigger teeth (or they're in a different position) than the ones on your new engine, then yes, that will cause your ECU an almighty problem - it won't be able to establish timing.

You'll encounter a similar issue if the left hand inlet cam pulleys are significantly different, btw.

In either case however I would imagine you will see a check engine light with errors 11 (crank) or 13 (cam) position sensors.

thats what i throught after mate, just wanted this confirming mate
i only realised after every thing was done, primed the engine with oil

then conected the crank sencer.
nothing, i checked & rececked every thing before putting the engine in
then remembered about that sprocket for the sti v7. it had loads more teeth

i have one here, just need to put it on.
weather has put this off today.
i first throught the fuel presure was either to high or 2 low.
still, see what happens when this sprocket is fitted.

this is the one that should have been on:

still, need to check to make sure every thing is fine. then off to jgm the car goes
so far so good, no leaks. she runs ok
