Default Dump Valves 101?

Hello, I'm just after some advice basically, I was looking at getting a HKS SSQV BOV, but....... I hear so much bad stuff to report on fitting a new BOV over the standard one. The engine runs either too lean or too rich due to the ECU not being able to compute the correct airflow. I understand that if you plan on getting more boost out of your car then you will require an upgraded BOV. I would just like to hear the general consensus on the BOV, now I will not risk buying one just for the sound although they sound sweet, i would rather have the performance all day long. I find it very confusing as to why the BOV was first manufactured due to them potentially making the car run worse.

Advice would be much appreciated

Kev

The standard one works very well. How high are you thinking of running the turbo? You shouldn't need to upgrade the BOV unless you are running boost seriously high.

If you were going to get it mapped I think a mapper could set the car to run correctly with a VTA BOV.

If you want the bling factor without the hassle then you can get recirc valves too, HKS do one.

Not the way forward exactly because you don't need one at all. But if you want some bling to polish then fill yer boots.

I bought a 05 Jdm Sti 5 weeks ago which came with a VTA aftermarket dump valve. I didn,t like the noise of it and it caused a irregular idle. First chance I had I changed it back to standard. The cars idle is good now. Steve.

Yep, its staying standard! i'd rather have the performance over the pssshhhhh any day. I love the comment "But if you want some bling to polish then fill yer boots". Haha no i'll stay standard and keep the £200+ for decent mods.
