Default HEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!! still not fixed.....

hi guys,
my car for ages now has had its own mind on when it would like to start!!!
9/10 times it is perfectly fine, then on the 1 occasion it doesnt; all it will do is turn over!!
this is the weird part though.... sometimes if you give it 5 mins it will start fine, others you have to leave it for hours, BUT; if you bump it down the road IT WILL start and run fine, and even if you try to bump it and dont quite manage it - turn the key and the bloody thing starts anyway!!!haha

I also gave it to Paul at Zen recently to see if he could get it sorted for me, but would you know it - for the whole week he had it there it only went and started everytime!!!!!
So PLEASE... someone........ ANYONE.......

surely out there somwhere is a God who can help me with this problem???...

Crank or cam sensor knack'd? If they are subjected to transient overheating, for, example, then they can lead to non-starts when too hot.

Jason Plato, coincidentally had this happen a couple of BTCC meets ago, as he was riding the clutch on the warm-up lap to try to make the clutch less of an "on-off switch". After much head-scratching by all involved, Chevrolet eventually sussed what the cause was, and had to contrive a little fan cooling system for the crank sensor, so as to remedially get round the issue...

What about an earth to the starter itself?

If the starter wasn't earthed (through the strap bolted to the bellhousing) then surely the car wouldn't crank over?

I had a car with a similar fault recently - turned out to be the ignition amp breaking down, causing the coilpacks to have an intermittanly weak spark, making the car hard to start.

As mentioned above, also check cam/crank sensors

Hi everyone,
thank you to everyone that has posted so far....

in reply to you all - yes the cam/crank sensor was mentioned to me IF it was only happening on hot starts (which wasnt the case all the time, even 1st thing in the morning it happened too).
also the crank sensor is ok as i am getting a reading on my apexi when all it will do is turn over (paul at zen told me that one!!ha), so that has left me thinking maybe just to change the cam sensor anyway i supose - cant do any harm thats for sure!!

Fiestaboy could you explain what you said about the coilpack bit still apply to me... my coilpack isnt actually on top of the engine as it is a v2/3 sti???

many thanks again everyone...

Ignition Amp is located on the back of the bracket bolted to the Driver's side strut (front of the bracket has BCS, MAP sensor etc bolted to it)

ive had the same fault on other make vehicles and it has turned out to be a temp sensor. by not giving the right temp causes the car to run too rich/weak whaich causes bad starting. hope this helps
