I recently bought a 2009 subaru impreza. It has apprx 34,000 miles so it is a little time left under the factory warranty. After a day or two after we bought it we started smelling a burning like smell. To me it smells similar to when someone drives with the emergency break on. I checked the oil and needed about 2.5 quarts. What are the possible problems and will they be covered under the warranty?
I am going to have it checked out but want to hear your opinions first to help me understand the current problem.
Guess I should of mentioned. There is no signs of oil leaking. I watched it closely when oil was poured in.
Trust me, it does not take much of a leak of oil onto a hot exhaust to create a serious smell. I've had a couple - rocker gasket and gearbox seal thingy. The burning gearbox oil has a distinctive smell (burning plasticy rubber). I doubt you could detect such a leak just by watching when topping up. Have you had a look for signs of oil on exhaust?
Thanks for taking the time to reply! I just hope that when I take the dealership for warranty work they don't tell me there is nothing wrong and my motor blows next month when the warranty ends.
As to the game, I saying we get our biggest win ever with a score of 2-1!
