Default Walbro 255 filter sock size for P1??

Hi all

Leading up to my remap on the 26th of June, I bought a walbro 255 fuel pump to install prior to the mapping.

Bought from Mark at Lateral whosold me the kit for a P1 which comes with the following filter sock:

Mark explained that it will be of a different shape to the origional one sock attahced to the pump but that it would be fine as although it's not square, it's longer so will pick up from a lower point in the tank which is better.

He also advised this is the same sock used in cars running over 500bhp without any problems.

On speaking to Bob Via email, he advised using the origional filter sock over the longer one as it may possibly cause fuel surge problems.

Little confused now as to which one to use!!

Spoke to Lateral today who again said the one he's provided with the kit is fine and I'm inclined to go with that but wanted to know which filter any of you guy's have used when fitting the Walbro pump??

I know both Mark and Bob are really nice guy's and at the top of there game's so no disrespect intended at all and I feel really silly fussing over the filter but the remap's been a long time coming and just want to make sure things are done correctly before so it goes nice and smooth on the day!!

Thanks Guy's!!!

ROLL ON 26TH!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the speedy replies guy's

I'm inclined to stick to the origional one but thought it would be good to replace it as the car is now 10 years old.

Was gonna try and ask Mark at Lateral to just give me an origional shaped one but really don't want to go against his good advice as I'm sure he would'nt recommend the one in the pics if he was'nt 100% about it!

Any other opinions please!

Hi i have fitted 2 in the last 3 weeks,1 on a 1995 wrx and 1 on my MY2000 uk ,both times used the original subaru filter. If you look at your filter, can you see any sediment attached to it,or is it dirty ?, apart from a slight discolouration it should be good to go.

Perhaps the people who are stating that the original filter should be used instead of the filter supplied with the kit, could say WHY this is the case ?

If you go back a few years ago, then the Walbro supplied filter was too short, and could cause fuel surge, but this was rectified ages ago, and the new filter is more than long enough.

I have spoken to Simon (JGM) and he has said the same thing, and that the info on his web site needs up dating.

If people have another reason, please let me know.

Mark.

I used the original filter because the one supplied, when attatched to the walbro sits 180 degrees the wrong way. When I removed my o/e pump the wires go into the the connector which sits at the back of the frame, the rubber hose sits at the front of the pump. If you fit the walbro like the original one is fitted, then the filter faces the wrong way as the supporting hole for the clip is in front of the filter pickup pipe( as in the 1st picture). The o/e pump has the supporting hole behind the pickup pipe, which points the filter away from the pump ,and into the tank.
If you use the walbro filter your connector will have to be in front of the pump and it will not fit in the frame with the rubber grommet.
