Default emissions problem

looking for advice on emissions failure mot. is it possible a small exhaust leak could cause failure or is it more serious?

A minor exhaust leak, can give you high lambda readings which could fail, as it's drawing air into the exhaust. What have you failed on? Lambda, hc or co?

fail sheet reads; centre exhaust has minor leak of exhaust gases.

exhaust emissions; carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle, excessive.
lambda reading after 2nd fast idle, outside specified limits.

hope you guys can help, 'cause garage never advised of a fix to pass mot due to their diagnostic equipment playing up!
would a new exhaust simply fix it?

A minor leak of exhaust gases is not a failure in it's own right, but excessive lambda can be caused by an exhaust leak. Can you post up the figures my guess is it only just failed.

Is it even legal for an MOT testing station to fail a car on emissions without handing over the gas-analysis sheet?

Yeah you really should have a gas sheet. Either way if you failed on excessive lambda and have an advisory for exhaust leak, there you go!! Get that sorted and try again.
