Default Removing front airbags - replacing facelift classic steeringwheel with the airbag in?

The car started life as a - MY98 UK Classic with a facelift interiour

I want to get rid the two front airbags
(Bear in mind that the car will have full padded roll cage and FIA approved harnesses in)

Two reasons. One to strip out weight. Two I dont like lumpy face lift steeringwheel, I much prefered the thiner Momo steering wheels that you got in the earlier pre-facelift WRXs

So

1. Having a car with airbags from new and then removing them - will this have any implications with the MOT?

2. The hole in the dash that would be left when removing the passenger airbag - is there anything made that can fill the gap - or do you just stick the existing old cover on?

3. Can you do a straight swap with the steeringwheels - or is it more compilicated that this - given I guess there is somekind of wiring going into a facelift clasic steeringwheel?

Anyone ever tackled this...simplish job or a pain in the a*se?

Imports that don't have a passinger airbag have little storage area like the one in the center so you could probably buy a lid to replace the airbag

I guess it is no problem. But it is dangerous to assume. I will call Gary M to check before I do anything.
