Key gets stuck - please help!
Hi folks
Just wondering if someone can help please, i have just taken possession of a 1996 (N reg) wrx FIA, got a really good price as a 'work in progress' before shes worth some pics, i dont mind as i can do the majority myself with just some info & help
The key barrel will not let go of the key you have to turn the engine off, then it says im supposed to push the key in & turn but the mechanism is that worn it can take 5 mins of messing/forcing to do it. I dont want to break the key & not come across this issue before has anyone had this & how did you fix it???? thanks
Tim

It's probably NOT the mechanism, but the KEY.
Do you have a spare? When this happened on my 98 car, I compared keys and the one I used all the time was so worn it was almost a different shape to the spare. I now use the spare, but have bought another for spare, so to speak.
And make sure you are sat down if you have to ask how much a new key costs.........

key
If it has'nt got a chip in the key then a new barrel with two keys is around £16 from a subaru dealer, my spare for a 95 wrx snapped off in the barrel.
Then you can match the rest of the door locks to the ignition key or just have two keys.
Hope this helps

Look at the BASE of the plastic bit, on one side of the metal key shaft, or the other. If it has a chip, you can make out the little cover it was put in through. The cover is on the lower shoulder of the key handle, if you see what I mean?
