VF28 potentional?
Hi, im looking to fit a VF28 on my MY03 WRX PPP with sti pinks, de cat up-pipe, high- flo cat, 3 port solenoid and a remap from duncan(racedynamix). I was originally going for a vf35 but cannot find a good one and duncan has found me a good low mileage vf28 from a P1 that was run on standard boost, now i understand from a little research that it will spool a fraction quicker than the vf35 and although may not make as high bhp it will reach what im looking for. What i would like to know from anyone in the know or has had one, will it be capable of holding strong boost to the redline and not run out of puff at high rpm? can anyone help?? many thanks

Mate, i am looking at doing something similar with a classic. From my investigations you might want to look at a VF22/3 if you are looking for some big bangs. Plus i want the VF28 so send me your mate's contact details

im running a vf28 on my classic with fmic, full decat, power fc, injectors, fuel pump etc
and have no problems with the turbo running out at high rpm pulls like a train to the redline, and will be getting removed in about a month for a vf35 and 570cc injectors as im going for a little more power.

I can vouch for a VF23 made 330/320 on a MY99 RB5 along with FMIC, 3" de-cat and Andy F ecutek map. I believe a VF28 will make just slightly less so you should get 320 no probs

Running a vf28 on a classic here... at the moment standard top mount and the software estimated it at 313/303

I had a vf28 on a 1999 uk turbo,with decat , sti tmic,3 port boost solenoid,straight through centre,samco induction hose,& vortex backbox.The car was mapped by bob rawle and dispite a knackered lambda still made 320bhp - 318 lb/ft and was hitting 1.4 bar.
I now have a model year 2000 uk turbo with the exact same mods as my earlier car, but have recently changed the vortex for a ninja2, and i am off to see bob next saturday for another tweak to my existing map,and have been told that 330 bhp is about the max you can expect to see from a vf28 with normal mods.
It does spool later than the td04,but it can hit full boost by 3,000rpm,and stay there till you hit the 7100 rpm rev limiter, unlike the td04 which starts letting go after 5,500 rpm

The 35 has a smaller compressor housing than the 28 (p15 v p18?) but the 28 is still a very good turbo and would suit your needs perfectly for the 300-320bhp your after

Not really needed, the vf 28 was STD equipment on the P1,and that can pull 1,000 rpm more than your STD Uk turbo Also the half a dozen responses you have received on this post from various owners, tell you that the turbo will do all that you require,if you add to the fact it can be bought cheaper than a vf35,will spool slightly faster and give you your desired bhp , next thing is get it fitted to the car & book your remap IMHO.
Before I bought mine I was adamant I was going to stick with my td04, 1 trip in my mates STD P1,and a quick pm to 'splitpin' for advice regarding bhp output, and I was in Kent 2 days later picking up a mint vf28 . It was a no brainer for me and i never looked back as I sold my td04 for the same money as the vf28.

thats strange ive done a fair bit of research on the banjo and the top banjo(turbo end) is the same(not in all cases but doesn't matter) but the bottom banjo is def different, roller bearing turbo's nedd the smaller hole restrictor. a good friend that works for subaru gave me the price for that banjo today. both he and i came up with that number after research, it also has a filter in it unlike the td banjo. who knows what subaru where doin with the banjo's but thats the number used with the vf28 on a p1 so prob best to fit one. but this is just my findings
