Default Wrapping inlet manifold

Just been thinking about bits to do on the car and will soon have the IM off. Whilst it's off I was thinking about putting some heat reflective wrapping underneath, which got me thinking. Has anyone tried fully wrapping the IM with heat reflective tape?

Would love to, along with the exhaust and turbo, but until I win the lottery or find oil in my back garden then I think I'm going to have to stick to heat wrap

If the im is coming off anyway,it would be a good idea to fit spacers before you re-fit it.A worthwhile mod to help with the heat and not to expensive to do.

Already got spacers in the mix....was purely thinking about heat wrapping.

Thinking about it, wrapping it with standard exhaust wrap might insulate the heat too much. I might go for the reflective tape instead.

Funnily enough it was yours that inspired me

Did you think of doing the whole IM, including the top?

I'm only trying to mitigate the heat radiated from the block rather than ambient heat...ideally I'd like to have measured the charge temp before and after adding the reflective tape to get an idea how effective it is, sadly I'd need an engine to achieve that

Been there - don't bother. Unless you're going to wrap the intercooler and the throttlebody and heads (how?), there's going to be a shed load of hot air in there when you're at idle. Wrapping a piece of pipe that's a tiny part of the air intake system doesn't help.

Coolio, to make a statement like that you must have carried out some fairly exhaustive testing, very interested in your data...do you have any temp logs for the various areas around the engine bay, I'd be interested to see how and where you measured the temperatures?

I have 218 logs sorted by date. Damned if I could tell you now which ones they were amongst them! I can always send you the lot (96Mb) and you can trawl if inclined.

Don't get too excited - they weren't all temp logging! Hard part was logging temp data and time syncing it with RR logs

Ok HM won't let me send a big rar file. I'll see if I can find the right ones over the WE and send those... Should really be organised - once I finish any analyses the data just gets dumped in a folder. I started keeping an Excel sheet as an index of all my logging and mods but then it felt like 'work' so that was the end of that
