up pipe is bolted to turbo . and depending on condition may have rusted bolts/studs which can snap/ i quote 4 hours , so sounds about rite....... sometimes only takes 2 hours depending on how smoothly job go's

the problem with changing up-pipes is as said above the bolts not coming undone, i have done a few up-pipes and the turbo does not have to come off, all that is need to create the space is simply jack the engine up a few inches and the up-pipe will drop down, one is a must is to change both gaskets and do not use and exhaust paste.

Although they can be a pita to swap 4 hours is way too long.
Yes bolts can be awkward but nothing a dremel can not sort and a new bolt to replace, as said just raise the engine a few inches and it will slip out!
I swapped a set of OE headers and up pipe for a GT spec set with uppipe in about 2.5 hours including smoke and brew breaks lol.

Thats what i thought, Changed my whole system including downpipe (but not uppipe) in 3 hours. That was on jacks and axle stands not a 4 post lift.

i can see where the garage is coming from, they could tell you it'll take an hour and when it goes **** up you'll be pissed at the higher price and extra time it has taken. always price for the worst possibilty.

Those nuts will either be loose as anything or as solid as rock, even with heating they can shear, if they do that it could be somewhat tricky to get them out and replace them, so 4 hours is a good ammount of time given for the job

ive just had to take mine off as it fell apart and nailed my turbo it was a bitch all the bolts holdin it on were solid.... also there is a heat sheild hiding the 2 bolts joining to the headers to remove it u need to take out the 02 sensor i removed my turbo in about 40 mins and my uppipe about the same because of the stooooopidly tight bolts... no ramps needed

Nick i would take it elsewhere going by your last comment.
There seems to be a few that have replied to the thread that are in the business, at least one user above owns premises and works on Subarus so of course they are going to say 4 hours! I dont charge by the hour i charge for the job.
@ Tony, if Nick was local i would gladly do it for him. Im doing a bugeye this weekend so i will let you know how it goes.

4 hours seems about right tbh,
As mentioned they need to cover their backs cost wise and again as mentioned If I quoted you 1 hour to do it but you came to collect and I wanted 4 hours labour costs you will kick off, so 4 hours as a worst case scenario is a good guide, the bolts do seize and take some removing.

Thats sounds as though every garage is in some sort of price fixing??
On a good day you may have it done x3hrs and bad day i.e bolts seized and stud turbo snapped and needs drilling out could take 5-6hrs.
So 4hrs is average time. Also to remember job starts when bring car into workshop.
As in up ramp, tools out, do job, clean and put tools away etc. Start car up. Look for any exhaust blows. Off ramp, Test drive, Back up on ramp. Again inspect for exhaust blows and release car if all good.
So later bits would take time also..

Four hours sounds about right for the job if its the uppipe and if its done methodically and properly and taking into account all the things that could be a paint in the *** to do.
Sounds like this lot know what they are doing and they have quoted four hours so that you dont expect it back in two.
