Default engine light

hi ive had my scoob for 3 years now
all has been fine
had it de catted and re mapped, all is even better
just recently my engine check light comes on then goes off at random times, sometimes it doesnt do it from one day to the next.
the preformance of the car is ok,nothing wrong with that.
anyone got any ideas why and what this could be or what can i do to find out what is making the light come on.
thanx!!

Need a bit more to go on than this. Type and model year of car would be a start.

That's better. Search the forum using the term "black plugs", you can use them to find out exactly what's causing the error(s).

does the ECU retain all 'old' fault codes or are they all or some erased when the ignition is cut, if some are erased is it only serious or recurring codes that are logged? or does it just log everything untill they are manually erased?
