Default To Decat or Not Decat, that is the question?

Guys, i've done a search but not come up with much. Been in 2 minds for a while to decat my car. Its just been MOT'd but heres my query. If i decat and map it, come next year when I want an MOT it will fail. Would i be ok putting the old exhaust back on complete with cats with the new map to get it through the MOT. Or should I buy something like a prodrive exhuast with sports cat and get the car mapped. Has anyone done this and what sort of power would i get on a standard 03 sti.

If you worried about MOT issues you have only 2 choices, sport cat and decat centre and remap, I think it should still pass, or full decat with remap and find a friendly mot tester!

I've got the full PPP exhaust on mine (believe this removes the centre cat and just has a sports cat), with a decatted uppipe and it never has any trouble passing the MOT.

Ive just had my 07 plate Hawkeye MOTd with the std up pipe cat and de catted cntr pipe it went through fine, ive bought a full decat pipe which Im told by Simon at Jolly G G would be better than a sports cat, my MOT tester said he would MOT the car next year De-Catted no problems so its off down that route im going
then get Simon to remap the car

Same senario matey, but i'm going for the de-cat route, and have been told by my local MOT guy that i shouldnt have a problem, as there are ways round it. He also used to do the MOT's for the interceptor boy's in blue.

Hi,

You'll find that the MOT guys are fairly good about it because they know your going to take it back off when you get home anyway, my test station tells me to bring it with me in the boot and if someone asks, he can say its being fitted before it gets done, or you can say you've just took it off if you get stopped, at least that way he's covered and you dont loose your friendly MOT man

Your question stevep360, putting the cats back on for an MOT if you should wish, is perfectly OK after a map, you will notice a difference in the sound and performance.

My 53 plate STi UK spec with Map and full decat does 330hp,

if you need any help with a map PM me.
