Hi, i have a 98 v4 sti and was just wondering wether the plate to the right of the rear main oil seal on the block was covering an oil way or coolant.
Cheers.

Its an oil seperator plate - blow-by goes up to the breather on the block and the oil returns to the sump.
Plastic plates tend to crack and leak oil so the alloy plates are better.

Cheers for the reply. Are the metal ones prone to leaking and should there be a gasket or is it just sealant and is it special sealant as i have a leak and have removed the gearbox twice and resealed this plate, replaced the rear main oil seal ran it on the ramp for an hour no leak, drove home and it was dripping out???

The alloy ones dont tend to leak and are sealed using Grey 3Bond.
Are you sure is the plate leaking and not something else eg the oil gallery blanking plug above and to the right of the plate or the turbo oil return rubber pipe ??

I checked the blanking plug and that was tight, no signs of a leak from the oil return pipe. The bell housing had oil everywhere so i took the engine out today to have a closer look but have seen nothing obvious.
