This started out as I could not get 5th gear I have been driving the car to try to find someone to help me with getting this fixed at the best price as you do. I have been told 3 diffrent things that it could be and now to top it off all gears have gone down apart from 2nd . It is a 1999 t reg 20l turbo uk waggon. Is there anyone who has a box for sale or could this be fixed with parts, PLEASE HELP asap.

It's not a 6spd box, it's a 5spd. No wonder you couldn't get 6th

Yes I no it's a 5 speed box It's just I'm rushhing to get an answer and meesed up my booboo sorry.

A rebuild will cost in excess of £750+. Baring in mind it sounds like your gearbox will need lots of parts replacing it may cost a lot more. For similar money you could probably get a fully recon and guaranteed box from API. I think David from API posts on here, look in traders for sale section.

Cheapest method is to get yourself a 2nd hand gearbox. I've had a quick look on eBay and there is nother there for your specific gearbox code. Another option might be to get the gearbox, diff and driveshafts from a newage WRX, perhaps a 2002 model. There are a couple on eBay for not a lot of money.

When my WRX box died i got a 2nd hand one from eBay. It came off a low mileage accident damaged 2005 WRX. I got the driveshafts as well and the only thing that was wrong with it was a driveshaft seal was leaking and that's an easy £10 fix. I only paid £350 for the box and shafts. Bargain i thought and it drives really well.

Ok cool well I have found one just waiting on price hoping for £150 as it says offers over £100 also had a reply back on here for £200 with quick shift, but the only thing that worrys me is there is a whine and this is how this started I think not sure on that.
Thank you so much for getting back to me all this has been such a big help as I have been banging my head off the bonnet lol.
I harte cars some times but then I hear the dump valve and get the kick back then I'm in love again

2 points, the MY99/00's were a bit reknown for 5th going due to an incorrectly torqued nut on 5th gear, though I dont see how this could cause the rest of the issues you have, the 2nd point is have you checked the gearbox oil level?

Hi there this is what I was told about the 5th gear and that he could fix. But now all gears have gone apart from gear 2 I have now been told this could be down to the fork or something like that. The gear box oil should all be ok as it had full service at 90,000 all oils cam belt ect ect...
I have hopefully found a box just waiting on message back.
