HOW TO CLEAN LAMBDA SENSOR
Afternoon Chaps
Had my 2002 Bugeye throw up a fault did a check with reader and it was "HO2S BANK 1 SEN 1" HEATER CIRCUIT LOW
I`ve been told by countless ppl and a garage its the 1st lambda sensor that you can get to through drivers side inspection chamber when you take wheel off pic below shows the lil bugger thats causing my ride alot of trouble at the min.
My question is once ive removed it (hope its not too much trouble. Advice welcome ??) Can I try and clean it 1st rather than buy a new one straight off as I`m as skint as hell plus why buy new when the old one just needs a clean. I`ve been reading on net you can clean them with countless products and ways here are a few and can someone pls pls pls tell me which way is the right way and if it will make any difference ? soak in vinegar over night then wipe to remove carbon in morning, Soak in cola over night (prob works like putting penny in coke over nite and it been shinny in morn) using nail varnish remover and lil tooth brush, using a small wire brush and scrubbing it (would this not damage it ?) and the method i`m more draw to is soaking it in carb cleaner and giving a clean with soft cloth.
Please help as the more I read about cleaning them the more ideas and ways to do it come to light. Has anyone actualy used any of these methods and did it work ?

never heard of cleaning them m8, but have been told that once they go they need replaced, it is the most important one outta the 2 so not to be messed about wi, subaru charge 298 for them but try ottoman on e-bay, got 1 for 115 posted an all, Denso make to boot, I have my old one here, the only think wrong wi it was the wiring was damaged in the under bonnet fire i had

Remove front O2 sensor its not easy but possible,here is small guide
Tools
1. Jack
2. 2-Jack Stands
3. 22mm or whatever it is Crows Foot o2 Sensor socket
4. 1 3/8" universal joint
5. Short 3/8" extension
6. 3/8" ratchet
7. Flat heat screwdriver
Jack the car up, either one side or both sides....I personally just would jack up both sides...and put on jack stands. Get in the car, put your key in the ignition and turn it to on. Don't start the car, you do this to unlock the steering wheel. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. This will open up the wheel well so that you can remove a plastic panel that will allow you access to the front o2 sensor. This is where you use the crows foot o2 sensor socket. The order that has worked for me is to attach the socket to the u-joint, attach the u-joint to the short extension and attach all that to the ratchet. All that you really need to do is to break it loose, loose enough so that you can turn it off by hand. You may or may not want to disconnect the o2 sensor cable from the connection in the engine bay before you do this. The o2 cable also has a couple of plastic clips that attach it to a bracket that is on the coil-pack closest to the turbo. This is the way that I have always done it. I have read that people have done this without the crow's foot o2 sensor socket, but I would imagine that you would have to manipulate the fender liner a lot to get the job done, but it is probably definitely do-able

Do you think it will clean up Dunx ? Some ppl are saying so orthers are saying no way just confused as 2 different answers and no experience with them at all.

Have a look on sparkplugs.co.uk as they have the Denso one at good prices too. I got one for my wife's mitusbishi a few weeks ago, it has transformed the car and got rid of the engine light. It's like we have a new car with a bigger engine that uses less petrol

Also, if you unplug the wire you might be able to use a 7/8" ring spanner to remove the sensor. I paid £8 for a lambda sensor socket though, pricey for a single socket but works well.

even cheaper than the one i got, but I am happey wi 115 compared to 298from subaru, mite even buy this one and keep as a spare seems to be a lot of them going this past while on the bugs

get a new sensor from www.camskill.co.uk less than £100 I think last time I looked, would bother with cleaning as even if it solves it initially it will fail again
