Hi all,
Im currently in the process of modifying my classic version 1 sti import. I recently read on here that the classic gc8 is the most expensive to get power increases from the engine. Is this true? Am I better off abandoning the project and gettin a bug eye impreza and if so which model? How much will I need to spend to get a good one?
Thanks guys

The "best" is an STI, £6000...
A WRX bug-eye will be about 9 years old now, so you need to watch all the usual issues.
Awkward, really depends on how tidy yours is.

P.S. You also need to drive one, they are very different, heavier and more comfy, but not as lively as a classic.

It depends how far you want to go with mods and what sort of power you want to get. so for instance if you would like to have 300-340 then your current car will be fine for this just uprate a few parts and get a remap. but if you want to go upto 400bhp and past it then a buyeye sti would be a easier option. as standard they have a stronger engine and the luxury of a 6speed box. The newage sti will get bigger bhp figures overall but then the classic scoobs weigh less
it all depends how far you want to go mate. A decent bugeye Sti will cost you around 7k-7.5k and then you have got to try and sell your car which is pretty difficult in the current climate

Test for me would be the state of the bodywork on the classic STI. Any signs of rust on the rear arches or rust coming through the shell and for me, it's not worth it.

Better in what way? I've owned both and the Sti is way better than a wrx!? Handling, gear change, acceleration, braking. Can't actually think of anything that's better on a wrx? Not saying the wrx is a bad car in it's own right but that's a strange statement IMO

Thanks guys you've helped me out big time on what was always going to be a contentious topic! I' m defo gonna keep my classic as i like the lively handling and Im only lookin to run it at around 350bhp. Also I agree it would be tough to sell mine at the minute and it would take me a around 6 months to save up for a good sti by the sounds of it!! Thanks again!
