HELP, my left cooling fan isnt working....
its hasnt been working for a while now. Is there usualy a common fault re wiring or is it likely the fan is broken? any ideas of how to test?

You could run the car up so its hot when the fan should work then connect a test lamp up to the plug (not the fan) and see if it lights up if so then you have a live feed and the fans your fault

I assume your car has air con????? That is what the second fan is in place for. If the car didn't have a/c, it wouldn't have a second fan.
Start your car and click the a/c on and the fan should kick in

Interesting that you don't have one. What year is your car?
Either way, i retro fitted a/c to my MY99 and the second fan (nearest to the battery) was the one which came with the kit and only cut in with the a/c

mine does same, what i found was one fan would kick in first, then hotter engine got both would kick in. took my engine a long time tho, about 20 mins idling and holding revs at 2k ish for a while to make it work. but it did eventually kick in.
other option although its cheating, bridge wires from working fan over, both will always kick in then, good for peace of mind and better cooling
dont want to scare you, but when i noticed only one of mine was coming on and testing it etc. 100 miles ish later the engine decided to cook. dunno why yet, currently stripping it down trying to find a fault. but it does av a simtek ecu and many people have said only one of their fans on simtek kicks in first. dunno if its related at all. doubt it. and hope not.

From what I've read on here (may not be true), the second fan is for the air con like Brun has already mentioned. So if your air con doesn't work, that's probably why your second fan doesn't. I have an MY99, no air con, and only one fan.
