We are on about classics, no such thing as a uk sti. The STI's run different cams, and ECU. Everything was supposed to be capped at 280ps as a gentlemans agreement.

The entry level WRX(version 4) had 280 ps at 6500 rpm as std & 242 lb/ft @ 4000 rpm. The sportswagons as stated above had 250 ps @ 6000 rpm(up 10 ps on previous year) if it was a manual,if it was auto transmission it remained at 240 ps
One of the main differences was the sti version had substantially more torque than the wrx and also had a 7,900 rpm red line and a 8,400 rpm rev limiter due to having a stronger block & internals

Ah yes, he has that weird anomaly wagon, where the power went up by 10PS, for that specific MY (compared to 240PS for MYs 97/99/00)

Joz the power only went up by 10 ps if it was a manual, auto's remained at 240 ps. , judging by his vin its a manual.

The version 4 sti did have 280 bhp,as per the gentlemans agreement for japanese sports cars( evo 6,nissan skline ,P1 - all 280 bhp),however it was rumoured that the sti was closer to 300bhp

Have to agree with this if it's a wagon WRX(250bhp/225lbft). Only the 4 door WRX and STI saloon and wagon had 280bhp. Sorry to give bad news.

The version 4 did however come with a better rear diff than earlier models.
