Default What would cause cabin fumes smell ?

Driving the car normally no problems/smells (from the car at least) but if i give it some beans/accelerate fast i get a kind of,well,it varies, sometimes it smells like crankcase fumes (bit like when i ran my old bike with a crankcase breather catchcan) and on other occasions smells like exhaust fumes but with a hint of neat fuel in (quite potent, not just a whiff) then when driving back to normal throttle it goes instantly

very weird

no obvious leaks, checked the headers/up-pipe as best i can,no visible leaks from anywhere/breather pipes,i cant smell anything with bonnet up at idle.

so,any ideas ?

as i say,its only on boost really

Its a 95 classic with k+n panel filter and a 2003 TMIC,sports CAT and blitz exhaust system with Bung in place.

cheers

cheers for reply, no oil leaks.

Ive checked around the sports Cat,cant smell fumes or see any sign of leaks, thats whats so baffling, cant see any signs of any exhaust leaks, been underneath, nose touching the joints, wahay, nothing.

For it to only happen on full throttle acceleration/boost as well ??????
I can acclerate but only use half throttle still to 120 etc (on track,no smell) its only when giving it the beans
i did think it was my D/V but i fitted my O.E one and it still did it

Then i got to hinking, maybe its the 2003 TMIC,but thats just filtering fresh air,so even if it were leaking,it wouldnt be fumes smell

Do you get it with just the window open??

When you come off boost and slow or stop??

Are you running a VTA DV and large bore exhaust??

In which case it could be over-fueling, due to the VTA, and the fumes not being discharged from the exhaust, due to the bore size and blowing around the car and into an open window.

Just my thoughts

The other thing, is,the smell isnt like exhaust fumes, its more a mixture of neat fuel/crankcase gases all mixed together

when you smell the fumes out the back of the blitz, they are nothing like what im getting in the cabin

Got to be coming through the bulkhead/firewall then. I know the Bugeyes suffer from breather pipe probs under the manfold but not sure if Classics suffer the same. I just searched "petrol smell" and there are quite a few results. Best of mate

Check all the rubber bungs & grommits where pipes & wires come through the bulkhead. My one where the aircon pipes come through had come out of place allowing a bit of a smell in.

Usually on a WRX bugeye you associate that smell with the precat leaking fumes which is pretty common. Can smell like unburnt fuel coming into the cabin. When you're moving you normally wouldn't smell it as the fumes blow under and away from the cabin, normally you can smell it when you're stationary.

There is a fuel pipe that runs under the inlet manifold, it's not uncommon for those to perish and leak fuel, specially if they are old.
