Default Will a cat from a 1996 WRX STi V2 fit a 93 WRX import?

Hi,

have been offered a Catalytic coverter from a 1996 wrx sti v2 and need to know whether it will fit on my 1993 WRX import. it's the one on the downpipe

I need one because mine has just failed its emissions test on it's MoT

cheers
Nick

As above, all the MY93-96 phase 1 OEM catted downpipes are the same and interchangeable between all the MY93-96 variants.

My MY'93 passes emissions with NO cats at all.

It's more probable that your lambda has gone or the MOT tester is running the wrong emissions test.

Did you inform the tester that your car is a pre '95 import and therefor requires a 'non cat' test?

What are your readings?

I thought that was pre-Aug 1992, no?

Oh yes - I remember that.

The grey area though is if the testing station can find your exact match of testing criteria for the vehicle's details. If they can then the flow chart does dictate a CAT test.

I suppose this is why some MOT stations do a CAT test for 92-95 cars, and others don't.

If I'd have realised that when I had my 93 WRX, I'd have I'll grinded away my VIN plate's Model code and VIN code....!!!

Vin is no good to um mate, only 9 digits on import instead of 17 on uk car. Mine still has all it's IDs and i've had 3 MOT's at 2 different stations so far, i'm trying another testing station in Sept so he'll get the same print out if needed

Wicked.

I feel cheated then that my old WRX failed on emissions on its 2nd MOT. Spent >600 sovs on lambda, 2 coilpacks + labour to get the sucker through....

Not 'bad' CO fails on a knackered cat.

I reckon you'll be sorted when you get it retested with the new 'un on there. Make sure you, or the tester, rags it for 10mins to all but ignite the cat, immediately before emissions test commences...

You've prob inadvertently pi$$ed the OP off now, bat.

No offence meant

And the HC is better than mine (could have a cat fitted i suppose)

The tester is not a Scoob fan either.

First thing he said to me, "well thats failed for starters" when i asked why, he repied "coz i fecking hate Scoobs"

He drives a Vectra (that should be in the swear filter)

I mailed my MoT man and showed him the link Bat posted above. this was his response.

"it wont work as there is an exact match in the gas analyzer database which means it has to be cat tested. good try though."

so I guess that because he can find an exact match it has to be cat tested
bugger

Boooooooooooooooo!

Pick me up if i'm wrong here;
The Impreza was introduced to the UK market in 1993, initially as a 5-door wagon, then later as a 4-door saloon.
The turbo charged version, called the Turbo 2000 AWD was released in the UK in 1994. The equivalent model in Japan is called the WRX.
So as the OP's car was built before the UK had even seen the Turbo 2000, how can there be an exact match, surely the only exact match 'is' a WRX import as there was no UK equivelent at that time

Ask him what he is testing it as, if he is matching it with the Turbo 2000 the surley that is incorrect, is it not?

Looks like i might have the same prob come this September then, unless i do 110 mile round trip

bat, perhaps since 1992, they've had all that time to FULLY update the database with the correct details of even all the grey/parallel imports, too...???

(More's the pity though lol).

Most cats will fit as in bolt up and not leak or blow but the lanbo sensors will not fit as they are different pins / plugs also there in different locations I bought a cat off an 94 import to fit to my 1998 UK wagon for the mot. It bolted together but no sensor would fit so I had to modify a new one costing me nearly £300 it was a high risk venture but thankfully payed off in future if I buy a scooby that has been de catted I will ask for the cat if they don't have it I would walk away
