Default help it's ill

I have my96 preface wrx wagon. on the way home from work today it only went to 0.5bar boost, nothing unusal ish as ive had problems with the 3 port boost valve with oil in the vac lines. so i got home and then it cut out!

when you try and start the car it just dies, it will drive but only if you keep the revs up so it doesnt stall.

I took the old MAF out and it was covered in oil, i then had a spare second hand MAF and changed this it still is the same. basically it will start but then it will cut out. no codes are showing and i reset the ecu. still the same.

If you start it with the MAF unplugged it will run but it idles jumping between 400and 1100 revs. plug the maf back in and it cuts out.

whats going on i need help baaad

Yeah through the sump plug. Get it as close to the 'o' on dip stick, not the '>'. Recheck /clean the BCS and all the vac/boost lines. To clean the aicv effectivly you really need to remove the unit completly, not just the 2 cross head screws on the top.

Using a second hand maff is not the best. Get it to a specialist and they will sort it quick enough and save you replacing parts you didnt need to do.

This says idle mixture incorrect. faulty/blocked ICV or split pipe to/from ICV.

How sure are you that the 2nd hand MAF is in good working order?

You can clean the eliment on the original one and retry it. Best way would be to drip break/clutch cleaner over it.

No suprise there, they are the effects of a failed (non-existant) MAF.

When you unplug the MAF you change the amount of air/fuel being taken in, this seems to be allowing the ICV to operate. When you plug the MAF conector back in, the ECU (via the MAF) then controls the air/fuel intake and causes the ICV to fail.

As a side what methord of ECU reset did you use?

"assumption being the mother of all **** ups!" great start to a post, lmao

i used the connect green and black connectors throttle down half up method.
It's now been delivered to Jim king autotune aberdeenshire, he even gave me a free courtesy car to use until it's fixed.

There was no option left but to put it to the specialist as i was close to going bruce lee on the car. the neighbour wondered what quiet swearing was about!

to think i used to have a trouble free blob............still prefer the classic tho
