Non turbo to turbo

Yes it has been done, but the long and the short of it is by the time you spend the cash upgrading everything eles you need to cope with the extra power you would have had change left over from just selling the car and buying a turbo.

i too once wanted to covert my then car (sport) into a turbo, and i will give you the same advice i got back then...
once you consider that for this to work long term and not go wrong every 2mins, you will also need;
turbo wiring loom,
better gearbox + diff,
bigger brakes,
better clutch,
and of course the turbo engine also - youve just about gone and put a complete full turbo car into the project vehicle already!!!LoL
Suffice to say i sold up and went out and bought myself my 1st STI!!!
Its up to you my friend of course, but if you weigh the costs of it up im guessing it wouldnt be a financially sensible route to go down either!!!
Whatever you decide - Good Luck fella!!!

can i just ask why you really want to do this???? by the time you have finished pi55ing around and buying everything (stated above) it would of been cheaper/easy-er/less problematic to buy a wrx that's in need of a little tlc!!! this question gets asked quite alot on here, so my guessing is your 17 and cant afford the insurance on the turbo(like all the others who ask)? all i can say is wait your time (we all had too) get a few more years behind you and some ncb`s it will be worth the wait.

now now!! while the vast majority of these "transplant turbo into non turbo" threads are about some sort of insurance fraud, there are some genuine mechanics/enthusiasts who take this on as a project to hone their skills working with a subaru.
Agreed it is a whole load of hassle and the cost is usually prohibitive but if someone wants to take this sort of project on fair play to them.

the cheapest way would be to buy a early import with no mot or minor problems, then just swop the parts over and sell what you dont want. ive seen early cars go for peanuts with not much wrong with them.
good luck to you fella

It's not worth it IMHO unless you have a minter sport and a ratty cheap donor WRX/STi with a good engine. Essentially you are treating your sport as a shell, which kind of defunks it as a proposition when you consider you could sell it for 2 or 3 times a rolling shell value.

Well yeah im after a project lol was just ineed of info from long term scooby owners lol as i work for a jaguar and rolls royce specialist, and apart from perparing a 500bhp scoob for the nippon chalendge dont know as much as i would like about them.
The scoob as it stands only owes me £200 and runs a gem in the process of painting the interior as it has been striped and was playing with the idea of turbing but from what you guys are saying and as i geusd it would be an expensive project, which just means ill keep it a non turbo for now and play round with it for awhile.

Usual induction decat etc, also I am told you can get the 2.5 Legacy N/A lump from the same year with ECU and its plug and play.
I'd register here mate tbh.

Full decat exhaust
Silicone intake hose
and probably remap(which give you around 7-15bhp)
From non-turbo to turbo route is expensive(i try on Saxo VTS,but this route has been expensive and not worth money and hassle. If you really want turbo car buy older WRX and mod this...

the n/a(sport) subaru is gona be pants what ever you do to it imho, its far too much hassle coverting it to a turbo too. if i where you i would sell the n/a sport then put the money from that towards a early wrx in need of some tlc then you should be away especily as you say you have worked towards getting 1 already to 500bhp, so you must know your stuff really?

its intiley up too you of course but it just seems logic to me to buy a cheeep wrx as if not the list goes on so much and the price will follow with it. i wish you all the best mate what ever you do but be sure to keep us all up to date
