my00 running front mount and maf
hello just seeing who is running a v5 or v6 with a front mount and genuine maf and if they are experiancing and problems as i know it is not great for them but i need to do so until i can affords a syvecs!!!
i am running 330 bhp with a k&n and genuine maf
i have seen alot of people reunning a z32 maf are these any better or are they all prone to fail??
any info would be great as i dont want any engine damage but just cant afford to get a syvec for a while

The later "green stripe/post 2006" MY99/00 MAFs are much more reliable than earlier ones. See this thread:-
https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...potential.html
BTW, alternatively a Q45 MAF is 90mm dia and therefore a direct replacement in the MY99/00 intake hose work (the Z32 one is 80mm and is suited more for the earlier cars). Obviously it has to be rewired and scaled/mapped after fitting it.
I've bought a Q45, as it's the earlier hot wire diode type sensor, which I think I'm right in saying that it's more robust than the MY99/00 'film' type ones - despite "the green stripe/post 2006" one (as currently fitted to my STi 5) being allegedly 'okay'.

Provided your K&N induction kit is properly fitted (i.e. vibration isolated) and your mapper has taken care of any alteration in the flow vs voltage curve caused by the cone, there should be no significant issues with the green stripe airflow meter and thus no real need to fit an aftermarket ECU. They are capable of running properly with significantly more power than you have at the moment.
If I were you I would not buy a KnockLink. They are very imprecise and can both miss legitimate det as well as cause false positives. If you are going to spend money in that area, you would be far better off with a digital solution like a Phormula KS3.
