Default exhaust flap/valve/butterfly

as above really

on some cars they have a butterfly type valve in the exhaust and this opens up with the different amount of back pressure.

so when you are cruising along the valve is part closed, and when you put uour foot down, the pressure in the exhaust increases and the valve opens up.

is there anything like this on the market a all?

i think they did, but from what i remember it was silly expensive.

apexi use to do one as well a long time ago

the reasion is, that i love my exhaust on my car (custom made titanium one) but it is just abit tooo loud for me now, mainly when doing motorways etc.

would putting a box in the centre section make it quiter?

yes mate. putting an extra box in the center section will make your car quieter. it shouldnt affect the performance much. but just to let you know "the less amount of boxes the less restrictive the flow is"

mating the 2 materials might be an issue when welding so might be better to get a custom one made to fit in place as a slot in type.

I've got a full titanium system and made enquiries a little while ago about doing welding on it... you're gonna struggle mate!

I had a butterfly valve on my 200SX which fitted between exhaust sections and was manually controlled from within the car by pulling a lever to either open and allow full flow, or close to restric flow and completely eliminate the noise... and power. But for motorways it was brilliant.

It was on the car already so couldnt help you with where to get one from... and that car came direct from Japan so I'd start the search there, lol

a bung is a option, as use to have one in my old nur spec, but it was a pain when you wanted to put it in and out etc.

think i am gonna try and look out for a butterfly valve, or if anyone has blue prints on how they are made, ill get one made up.

phoned powerflow today and they wanted £130 for a sentre section with a box in. sound about right?

OK - I know its not helping in the great scheme of things

But why the **** did you have to put such a big and unnecessarily loud exhaust on anyway?

for mine. it has got louder from when i had it new. and the cost to replace a centre section and back box in full titanium will cost a fork amount of wonga, so got a bung instead

simple answer! because i felt like it and it is'nt going! lol i have a bung that i use for the early morning starts and late return home which the neighbours are fine with.

just sick of getting a smelly and carboned up hand putting it in and out lol so fancy one of these

the price isnt too bad either on the apexi ones.

long journey is in fact better on the newage!

my titanium exhaust on the classic was bad, but the sound deadning etc on newage has improved greatly! inside it doesnt bother me and i can have a good conversation etc with no one complaining.

it got measured at sso 2010 at 101 db

it's local journeys where it can be a problem, bouncing off buildings and cars etc.

hi can you help me with this exhaust bung issue, ive never heard of them before but my neighbours are complaining when im up at 5 starting the car, its only a standard 01 reg uk300 so not as loud as alot ive heard but its still enough for them to have a moan. Would a bung work for me? What size do i need for the standard prodrive exhaust (it has the ppp) and do you just stick it in the exhaust? Sorry if there stupid questions.

they are complaining on a standard prodrive exhaust? i dont think you can get a bung for an exhaust that small.. best advice would be to just keep the revs under 2k rpm when your leaving.

thats the prob it is just the car running they are moaning about not when i drive off, i always keep the revs low the problem is they dont like that i start it and let it warm up! Maybe im just been too polite and should think **** em i got a decibel app for my phone and it was only 70 and that was outside next to the car where it echo's the mad woman next door was even stood at her window staring at me when i left for work monday morning!!!!!!!!

o as for letting it warm up, theres no need to sit in the car.. just set offkeeping revs below 3k rpm until up to operating temp. no need to let it warm up like that or if you still want to warm it up, jsut drive off immediately out of your estate and park up on a main road or open road and let it idle..

but like i said, no need, just drive off and keep the revs low

half the disels thats fly up and down my road have got to be louder than 70db
