P1 engine V STi
Just wondered if anyone knew how related to the P1 engine the newage STis are? i remember looking for a P1 as a contender before i bought my 05 STi and saw that many P1s had had engine replacements really early on in their lives...less than 40k. were they inherently fragile? can we expect longlives from the newer 2.0 litre engines?

P1 engine is the same as an STi Version 5~6 engine - not inherently fragile when looked after but they do use the 'nut' type conrods which were changed on the newage STi to the bolt type rods along with AVEX heads.
Newage STi's suffer from bottom end/piston failure too but it depends on the 'history' of the vehicle tbh.

thanks Mick...just wondered why 75% of P1's offered for sale had been rebuilt...but you have answered that now. i guess any engine, not properly looked after, will let go at some point, but i wasnt aware of anything specific to the newage...thought they were just as reliable as subarus of old earning them the good reputation they have for reliability.
