Thumbs down Crunching into gear

My car seems to crunch into 4th and 5th , but rather than a crunch it seems its biteing to fast as if its not fully disengaging or something. the clutch doesnt slip and ive changed the master cylinder as my old one was leaking,, im wondering if maybe it could be my slave? or if my gearbox is on its way out :/ or maybe clutch?

Any ideas people would be much apreciated.

Mine does it going in to reverse... if the cars cold.

Might be worth checking the gearbox oil for metalic fragments... if there is any id say get it rebuilt before you potentially blow it up... would be cheaper than a new one?

What model/year car?
But have you tried the basics, checking the gearbox oil level etc?

Its a Classic 2000 Facelift, Only done 73k and yeh the gearbox levels are fine, would it be worth draining it all out and refilling?

So its an MY00 classic?
I would go see a gearbox speciallist asap before it becomes expensive

and as far as im aware it would be more expensive to repair a gearbox than pick up a decent used one?

Yes it would mate and get some redline light weight shockproof 75/90w gear oil,it really does help for smoother engaging of gears and can stop slight crunches between changesspeak to oilman on here

5th gear nuts were not tightened to the correct torque settings on quite a few of the MY99/00 cars, they come loose, leave it and it becomes more of an issue
You can pick up a 2nd hand gearbox, it may have the same/similar problem, best just to fix the one you have

Try the lightweight Shockproof, it often sorts out minor crunches.

Sorry, we don't take paypal at the moment due to the fees they charge, it would mean that we couldn't offer our offer discounts.

What oil do you have in there currently? It's worth trying a different oil. Sometime back, a workshop filled my gearbox with Motul's FF-LSD gearbox oil, and after about 3-5 miles of driving or so, my 1st gear was crunching everytime i come to a standstill. I had to clutch in and literally wait for 1-2 seconds before engaging 1st to avoid the crunch. Got that drained out and filled in Motul gear 300. Problem solved. Learnt that LSD oils are too slippery for the synchros to catch.

Not always the case, some LSD suitable oils are fine in synchro gearboxes. If it was the Motul Gear ff Competition they used, then it was crunching as it's completely the wrong oil, it's a diff oil.

I thought it was a oil for LSD equipped front drive cars? It was this. http://www.motul.com.sg/product_line..._LSD_TYPE2.pdf

It was on my old bugeye wrx with the regular 5 speed gearbox.

Sorry, my mistake, I was thinking of another oil they make called pretty much the same thing. Sometimes oils just don't get on in some cars, they may be fine in another car that's the same though. Like that Motul meets the specs for the car, it's a GL5 75w-90, so it should have been fine.

Cheers
