Default classic power steering pump fault

my impreza makes a strange noise, like a whining noise just as its warming up and there after, when you turn left or right etc it sounds as though the power steering pump is broken, as it gets louder and aswell when the car is revved which seems to ring true as the belt will be turning faster.

Just wondering how easy it is to change the pump on a MY99 classic STI??

Regards

Chris

Will check belt and fluid, is it just normal power steering fluid that they use?

I always thought that the Subaru pumps use ATF (automatic transmission oil) tbh.
At least my GC says so on the plastic cap.
