Default using 97 ron fuel

Is there anything wrong with using 97ron super unleaded?

I generally always use this on my 2003 WRX which is all standard apart from a back box....

There seems to be a lot of threads going around at the moment about different fuels etc, is it ok to be using 97 instead of 99...?

its either from my local sainsburys or esso garage.

Think the car has generally been run on it most of its life tbh with no problems.

Neighbours hav a bugeye wrx wagon too, they said they use normal super unleaded, have done for years without a problem....

Mine is mapped on Esso 97 pushing good bhp, steer clear of BP. There is an ongoing debate between VPower and Tesco 99, take your pick, they are both good stuff

think it also depends whethers its a uk model or import, also depends on how you drive.
Drive it hard on 97ron and you could damage something

very safe on a standard car mate it only needs 99 if mapped for it,and ive also got a friend who has been using BP 97 for years without trouble.

Standard uk cars run fine on superunleaded, and v power or tesco 99 are a matter of choice imho .I think most people opt for the higher octane fuel as it offers better performance for no extra money compared to the price of std superunleaded fuel. I had my car mapped on tesco 99 and had excellent results, and as the tesco garage is less than a mile away from home it is also convenient

Hi iv been running mine on tesco 97 for about 5yrs now with no problems, i do however use a power pill on every fill up.....the reason i have never used a higher octaine fuel is tha i live in a small town & would have had to travel 15-20 miles to get 99octane...i rekon i have dun about 40k over the last 5yrs.

02 wrx uk sti ppp.

mine is mapped for 95 and 97 due to no 99 in Northern Ireland. BP is a fuel i would use as even 97 is hard to get over here, well not hard but travel is involved. KS3 is more settled on BP than some other brands but fuel here is very inconsistant.

I read on Bob Rawles webby a while ago that BP super was not good for scoobs, seems to be without back up facts tbh. JGM mapped the car on various fuels and although Topaz (irish brand) allowed the most timing BP was not far behind. Texaco on the other hand was dire and we aborted the mapping as it was not safe.

make the most out of what we get lol. No choice at the end of the day.
