Default How to bleed coolant system?

Cars overheating at the minute, will be checking the thermo but how do I bleed coolant system incase of air locks?

I'm sure i read somewhere that you have to start the car up with the cap off the header tank and if there are any bubbles coming out then leave it off until there are no bubbles left and then put the cap back on. I read this on another post but would wait until someone backs this up.
