how would i go about running 450/500bhp on standard newage ecu?
hi guys,
ok just something in my head recently, had a few guys randomly add me on facebook from foreign countries and have been talking to them / seeing their specs.
and a lot of them are on high 400s on standard newage block and ecu and they are saying they have been very reliable.
now i will be sticking an md321v on soon and have always planned to go syvecs at the same time but a couple of these chaps are saying try it on standard ecu first then go syvecs..
im having a bit of communication problem with these guys lol but it is interesting getting some imput from other tuning scenes.

470bhp on a gt3076 e85 fuel, stock engine and management running 1.8 bar boost.. how do you even run that much boost on stock ecu?

whatever that is suppose to mean lol sounds like a blobeye ecu.. not sure what the difference is
now what are peoples opinions? would it be a waste to try it on standard management? would it be any less reliable?
would be interesting to see what people think, as i rarely here of people running more than 440bhp on stock management and these guys have got me thinking lol

i know the hawkeye ecu is a lot more clever.. can these fit earlier newages? i dont think they can as they are 32bit i believe?
any mods to the standard maf sensor etc.?
what changes did you have to make? and what boost can the ecu handle?

no im going syvecs, ive factored that into my budget but if i can save near enough 2k n put that towards my engine build when it lets go..why not?
I still want to go syvecs just these guys giving me ideas. As they are running it fine. So just interested as to why uk scene doesnt do it on early newages.

The newage ECU with a AVCR or something similar will handle 450-500 bhp and the boost levels you're after. But if you have 2K burning a hole in your pocket go after market.

looking at it, i think it'll be more reliable on the syvecs to be honest. No Maf sensor and no need for other gadgets. Excellent knock control etc.

A big maf induction kit allows more airflow before maxing out the voltage of the maf. For example my RCM kit has the maf mounted in an 80mm tube , I believe the standard maf pipe is about 65mm, obviously your mapper needs to bear this in mind when he scales the maf.

i think i'm sticking to my plan of syvecs, purely because ive had mafs fail on classics before and i want reliability, if i can do away with these sensors then it'll be better for me personally.
but to answert he first question.. i guess there is a way to do it on standard ecu, just not many go that way due to them having more plans for the car in the future, plus for ease and ssafety.

Dont think you can run the OEM mafless?? Been told mines pretty much maxed out with the 321T 76mm intake pipe and 70mm APS CAI. getting almost 5volts across the maf apparently when you get to them levels the resolution of the map is compromised. I'm thinking Simtek is the way to go. Syvecs is a bit OTT for my needs

There is a newage rom indeed floating around which runs speed density instead of MAF.
This requires a charge air temperature sensor, and a MAP sensor.
However, this only works for 1 ECU type, the same MY years with a different eCU pn don't work, and other MY's do not work either.
If you have already invested in a Ecutek license I would maybe consider a big maf, and uprated MAP sensor and a remap.If however you would have to start fresh I would rather go (at these power levels)for a Speed density Standalone (ie Syvecs, for example) as that could actually be cheaper than Ecutek + AVCR+ BigMAF+remap costs.
On lesser HP targets (stock MAF maximums) I would go for a open source remap froma reputable source rather then paying more for the Ecutek (as you have license costs as well as mapping costs, whereas the opensource tune is mapping costs only.
Also with the mapping protection which is now built into Ecutek I would shy away from that as a matter of principle (paying money to return a Ecutek mapped ECU back to stock is not something that is reasonable imho, sure protecting the mapping itself is ok, but denying the rightfull owner of the ECU to any access is just plain wrong)
This is all ECU wise, tho.
The block actually being reliable at these levels is a bit hit 'n miss, so I won't comment on that.

Thats not to say it won't work on the oe ecu as it will but the end result will be a nicer car on aftermarket imho.
I run as my daily driver an 03 sti blob with md321V 1000cc injectors currently running a syvecs but has also been on a simtek, currently 502bhp.

yes mate i believe JGM is still on standard block.
Simon, thanks for the input, makes sense.. and having weighed up the cost, syvecs seems the best way for me.
side question simon: where did you buy the injector dynamic 1000cc injectors from?
