Why Has someone welded this pipe shut ?
Hello, I recently purchased my first Impreza and while looking around it i noticed something odd. It seems that someone has welded shut an oil feed pipe from the left hand cylinder head, why has this been done ?

Looks non-standard fit, whatever it is. Matt, it would help if you told us what model your car is. As Techno Brat says it looks a bit like an AVCS feed, but it can't be (theoretically) because you appear to have a classic not a newage. There are (or shouldn't be) any oil feed pipes on the left-hand head either.
Is it possible that the pipe that looks like a vacuum hose is connected to one of the takeoffs on the inlet manifold - and that the metal pipe has been shoved in to temporarily block it? If so, chances are that it once supplied a boost gauge.

Just to confirm we are all looking at the same pipe its the metal pipe in the centre of the screen. It runs from the front of the left hand cylinder head. If it is a AVCS pipe why is it there, any ideas ?

Looks like the previous owner has fitted a Legacy Twin Turbo engine into the car instead of the correct Type R engine.
The picture shows the oil feed for the redundant left hand turbo and if you look down the back of the cylinder head, you should see an oil return pipe for the turbo coming out the back of the head.

its ok in the twin turbo but no good in yours as the type r has forged pistons better heads/cams and higher rev limit, cant you take it back?

Bought it a month ago off a guy who lives in staffordshire, he seemed like a genuine guy and was also a subaru enthusiast. It was a private sale so i dont think iam going to have much luck getting a refund.

i don't know if there is much more you can do mate then mate as the car with that engine isn't worth as much as a original one when you come to sell it, how much did you pay if don't mind me asking? and was it off of ebay?

I payed £4050 and yes it was advertised on ebay by a guy called will.
I phoned him and told him that it dosnt have a type r spec engine and he didnt give a monkeys. He said mabe they just put legacy heads on it and the rest is type r spec. He also said it produced 330 bhp lol i'm absolutley gutted.

Choked for you mate,, a std legacy gt is 260 bhp,the gtb i had produces 280 bhp thats with 2 turbos & revs to 7500 rpm.Type r as said above stronger block and revs to 8250. Do you/can you see what turbo is fitted .

He doesn't sound much like an 'enthusiast' to me.

The Leggy GTB bottom end is the same as the V3/V4 Sti's(forged pistons) but the GT isnt so its pot luck with what you have. The real issue is the lack of Type R heads because that would Pi$$ me off more.
